February Blog: Month of Love

What does it mean to love? During the Month of Love, we are inundated with romance films, chocolates, roses, and teddy bears – manifestations of love in the material world. But what does it mean to truly love another?

When I reflect on what true love means, it is giving to another without expecting anything in return. I am so lucky to be able to see love in action every day. Love is the cornerstone of United Way’s work.

Every donor and every volunteer give to our community – their time, their talents, their treasure – because they love Sheboygan County, our neighbors, friends, and family. These gifts don’t just support our community now, but for future generations. This love is massive and far-reaching.

We have a vision that Sheboygan County will be a community where all individuals and families can achieve their human potential through education, financial stability, and healthy lives. This vision can often feel daunting, but it’s not impossible. Providing the ability for every person to reach their full potential can be done when a community pulls together and thousands of us move in the same direction, with the same vision, with love in our hearts for one another.

This is how the lives of 1 in 3 people in Sheboygan County are positively impacted by the generosity of United Way donors. Generosity that helps provide vital mental health resources, set children up for success, ensure basic needs are accessible, help our neighbors improve their well-being, and the list goes on.

When the community gives of themselves for the betterment of others, it is truly a demonstration of love. These individuals give so freely without seeking recognition that we couldn’t let February come to an end without showing them some love in return.

Our supporters demonstrate this year-round, and it is exciting to share it purposefully during the Month of Love. It’s been so fun to highlight our donors, volunteers and community partners through our social media campaign.
